That should fix the problem. This question was posted over a year ago. That solved my miseries, hope it will help you too. A CCM membership gives you access to additional options.

When you open an office document with dde enabled, there is a slew of messaging going on until the thing times out after 40-60 seconds and the document opens. But office will eventually catch on and repair the fix (turning dde back on).
