So, I dismantled the unit (it's 2 500gb drives, of course) and plugged the drives in to the SATA slots left on my desktop. Any ideas? I would call and speak with a technician since this seems to fall into a physical failure of the hard drive. Is it a firmware/software problem or a hardware problem?

It is impossible to say what is wrong with your hard drive. When it quits the drive shows "empty". Even when connected by USB the stupid thing doesn't really work properly and won't shut down when the computer is put to bed... It's all black and has a vertical light in the front that lights up blue.

So it looks like I will keep "her" and not junk or reformat. Thanks to all those who pitched in to help. One thing is for sure. my external hard disk wd wont show up in MyComputer or Disk management. You will need to use the enclosure the drive came out of.

around three months ago i bought dell laptop with win 7 , and the data storage was working good at first month but after that the data storage start to stop If not, then at the main screen, left-click Setup Your Hard Drive. I also pulled the drive out and put it into a new external enclosure however it is doing the same thing.. have a peek here All the folders/files are there except some are corrupt.

when i click the drive it cant be open " Application not found". When it gets warmed up or when it encounters a zip file to transfer it goes berserk and quits. hard drive.
